Riding history: Richmond first existed in the 1890 election. In the redistribution in 1988, the riding added 8.85 per cent of Drummond and 7.66 per cent of Arthabaska.

In the 2001 redistribution Richmond gained in the south from Johnson riding, a part of the town of Richmond (1,222 electors), as well as area in the southwest from Mégantic-Compton with no electors.

Liberal Yvon Vallières defeated Ralliement Créditiste's Yvon Brochu.

1976

Now-Union Nationale's Brochu defeated Liberal Vallières.

1981, 1985, 1989

Vallières won in 1981, 1985 and 1989. Appointed minister responsible for transportation, Oct. 11, 1989; minister responsible for agriculture, fisheries and food, Oct. 5, 1990 - Jan 11, 1994.

1994

Vallières defeated Parti Québécois's Richard Arsenault by 4,061 votes. Served as chief government whip.

1998

Vallières defeated Parti Québécois's Joaquin Bastida by 4,654 votes.

2003

Vallières defeated Parti Québécois's André Blais by 8,618 votes. Served as minister responsible for the Central Quebec region, Feb. 27, 2006 - April 8, 2007.

2007

Vallières defeated Action Démocratique du Québec's Pierre Hébert.
