Riding history: The riding was created in 1980 from parts of Laval and Fabre. In the 2001 redistribution, it added 14 per cent of Vimont in the north part of Laval bounded by: Laval Highway, Papineau Highway, Saint-Martin Boulevard East, Saint-Martin Boulevard West and the Laurentian Highway (8,101 electors).

1981

Parti Québécois's Bernard Landry, elected in Fabre in 1976, won here. (Landry had been defeated in Joliette in 1970 and in Joliette-Montcalm in 1973.) He was appointed minister of state for economic development, Nov. 26, 1976; minister responsible for external trade, Sept. 9, 1982; minister of international relations and minister responsible for external trade, March 5, 1984; minister of finance, October to December 1985.

1985

Liberal Guy Bélanger defeated Landry.

1989

Bélanger defeated Parti Québécois's François Shanks. Bélanger, a strong nationalist, quit after several years of opposing his party on constitutional issues.

Dec. 13, 1993 byelection

After resignation of Bélanger, Parti Québécois's Serge Ménard defeated Liberal Raymond Monette.

1994

Ménard again defeated Monette. He was appointed minister of public security, Sept. 26, 1994; minister responsible for Montreal region, Jan. 29, 1996; minister of justice, attorney general, minister responsible for administration of legislation respecting professions, Aug. 25, 1997

1998

Ménard defeated Liberal Robert Lefebvre. He was appointed minister of public security, Dec. 15, 1998; minister of transport and minister responsible for Laval region, Jan. 30, 2002; minister of public security, Oct. 29, 2002.

2003

Liberal Alain Paquet defeated Parti Québécois's Ménard.

2007

Paquet defeated Parti Québécois's Marc Demers.
