Riding profile: Iberville is a rural, south-shore riding that borders the U.S. It contains the following municipalities Ange-Gardien, Henryville, Marieville, Mont-St-Grégoire, Noyan, Rougemont, St-Alexandre, Ste-Angèle-de-Monnoir, Ste-Anne-de-Sabrevois, Ste-Brigide-d'Iberville, St-Césaire, St-Georges-de-Clarenceville, St-Paul-d'Abbotsford, St-Pie, St-Sébastien and Venise-en-Québec.

It also contains the part of St-Jean-sur-Richelieu east of the Richelieu River.

Riding history: Riding first existed in 1854 election. In 1992 redistribution, St-Jean-Baptiste polls moved to Borduas riding. In 2001 redistribution, kept 91 per cent of riding; nine per cent moved to Brome-Missisquoi.

1973

Liberal Jacques R. Tremblay defeated Parti Créditiste Paul-Yvon Hamel. Parti Québécois's Marcel Pépin was third.

1976

Parti Québécois's Jacques Beauséjour defeated Union Nationale's Urbain Morin. Liberal Jacques Tremblay was third.

1981

Parti Québécois's Beauséjour defeated Liberal Jean Guite.

1985

Liberal Tremblay defeated Parti Québécois's Beauséjour.

1989

Liberal Yvon Lafrance defeated Parti Québécois's Gilles Leduc. He quit the Liberals on Feb. 9, 1994 and sat as an Independent, saying he was going to join the Action Démocratique du Québec. When he quit, he said Liberals had stifled all constitutional debate since the defeat of the Charlottetown Accord.

1994

Parti Québécois's Richard Le Hir defeated Liberal Lyse Lafrance-Charlebois. Minister responsible for Restructuring, Sept. 26, 1994 to Nov. 9, 1995. December 1995 was forced out of PQ caucus while auditor general investigated conflict of interest allegations over the awarding of contracts to study impact of separation. He was cleared and asked to return to caucus but said the premier never got back to him. On April 30, 1996, he said he was leaving PQ to sit as an Independent. He said the PQ had been taken over by hardliners and the premier's overtures to non-francophones were a "vulgar public relations exercise."

1998

Parti Québécois's Jean-Paul Bergeron defeated Liberal Sylvain Lapointe.

2003

Liberal Jean Rioux defeated Parti Québécois's Bergeron by 921 votes.

2007

Action Démocratique du Québec's André Riedl defeated Parti Québécois's Marie Bouillé. Liberal Rioux finished third.
