Riding profile: Fabre contains the western part of the city of Laval bounded by the Mille-Îles River, the Laurentian Highway (15), Dagenais Boulevard West, Félix Street, Foster Street, Edgar Street, Édith Street, the overhead electric power line, the Laval Highway (440), the Chomedey Highway (13), Prairies River and Deux Montagnes Lake.

Riding history: Riding created in 1965 from part of riding of Laval. In 2001 redistribution lost an area from the southeast corner (2,867 electors) to Vimont riding (five per cent of the riding).

Liberal Gilles Houde won in 1966, 1970 and 1973.

1976

Parti Québécois's Bernard Landry defeated Liberal Houde (Landry had been defeated in Joliette, 1970; Joliette-Montcalm in 1973). Landry was appointed minister of state for Economic Development, Nov. 26, 1976. He ran in Laval-des-Rapides in 1981.

1981

Parti Québécois's Michel Leduc defeated Liberal Lise Thibault.

1985, 1989

Liberal Jean Holy defeated Parti Québécois's Leduc.

1994, 1998

Parti Québécois's Joseph Facal defeated Liberal Lise Evoy. Appointed minister for Canadian Intergovernmental Affairs, Sept. 23, 1998. In 1998, Facal defeated Liberal Joanne Gauthier by 2,352 votes. Remained as Canadian Intergovernmental Affairs minister until Jan. 30, 2002. Minister responsible for the Outaouais region, Dec. 15, 1998 to March 8, 2001. Minister of Citizenship and Immigration; minister responsible for Relations with French-speaking and Acadian Communities, March 8, 2001 to Jan .30, 2002. Appointed chair of Treasury Board, minister of state for administration and the public service, minister responsible for administration and public service, Jan. 30, 2002. Facal announced on Feb. 4, 2003 that he wouldn't be running again.

2003

Liberal Michelle Courchesne defeated Parti Québécois's Nathalie Saint-Pierre.

2007

Liberal Courchesne defeated Action Démocratique du Québec's Patrick Pilotte. Appointed minister of Families and Education, Recreation and Sports.
