Riding profile: Chauveau, northeast of Quebec City, comprises the following municipalities: Lac-Beauport, Lac-Delage, Saint-Gabriel-de-Valcartier, Shannon and the united townships of Stoneham and Tewkesbury.

It also contains part of Quebec City bounded by: the boundary of Quebec City with the municipality of Saint-Gabriel-de-Valcartier, the united townships of Stoneham and Tewkesbury, Lac-Delage, and the municipality of Lac-Beauport, the boundary of the towns of Charlesbourg and Beauport, the Rivière des Roches, the extension of Saint-Aubert Street, Notre-Dame Avenue, the Avenue du Zoo, the de la Faune Street, the boundary of Charlesbourg and Saint-Émile with Quebec City, the boundary of Loretteville with Quebec and Val-Bélair and finally the boundary of the towns of Quebec and Val-Bélair.

Also in the riding are: the First Nation reserve of Wendake and the hamlet of Étape.

Riding history: Riding first existed in 1966 election.

Riding created in 1965 from part of riding of Quebec County. In 1992 redistribution, lost small areas to Charlesbourg and Vanier and lost 3,116 electors to Portneuf. Gained small areas from Charlesbourg, Roberval, Lac-Saint-Jean and Vanier.

In 2001 redistribution, kept 76 per cent of riding; 24 per cent moved to La Peltrie. Lost to La Peltrie, from southwest corner, the part of Val-Bélair in the riding and two lots belonging to Quebec City and situated near Jade Street (14,858 electors).

1995 sovereignty referendum: Yes - 54.50 per cent, No - 45.50 per cent

1973	Liberal Bernard Lachapelle defeated Parti Québécois's Cécilien Pelchat. Appointed minister of state responsible for planning and development bureau, November 1973; minister of state for education, September 1975.
1976	Parti Québécois's Louis O'Neill defeated Liberal Lachapelle. Minister of cultural affairs, 1976-78; minister of communications, 1976-79. O'Neill, who had been dropped from cabinet, did not run in 1981.
1981	Parti Québécois's Raymond Brouillet defeated Liberal René Dussault.
1985	Liberal Rémy Poulin defeated Parti Québécois's Brouillet.
1989	Liberal Poulin again defeated Parti Québécois's Brouillet.
1994	Parti Québécois's Brouillet defeated Liberal Poulin.
1998	Parti Québécois's Brouillet defeated Liberal Hélène McLean.
2003	Liberal Sarah Perreault defeated Action Démocratique du Québec's Hélène Napert.
2007	Action Démocratique du Québec's Gilles Taillon defeated Liberal Perreault.
