Riding profile: Châteauguay, located south-west of Montreal, contains the following municipalities: Châteauguay, Léry, Mercier, Sainte-Catherine and Saint-Isidore. The Kahnawake aboriginal reserve is also in the riding.

Riding history: Riding created in 1853. In redistribution before 1989 election, 64.55 per cent of Châteauguay remained and took on 7.83 per cent Beauharnois and 5.28 per cent of Huntingdon.

In 2001 redistribution, kept 95 per cent of riding, with the other five per cent (the town of Maple Grove) going to Beauharnois. In the northeast corner 18 per cent of La Prairie was added in the town of Sainte-Catherine.

Parti Québécois's Roland Dussault defeated Liberal Kennedy.

1981

Parti Québécois's Dussault defeated Liberal Yves Fleurent by 1,778 votes.

1985

Liberal Pierrette Cardinal defeated Parti Québécois's Dussault.

1989

Liberal Cardinal defeated Parti Québécois's Luc Trottier.

1994

Liberal Jean-Marc Fournier defeated Parti Québécois's Guy Gibeault.

1998

Liberal Fournier defeated Parti Québécois's Carole Freeman.

2003

Liberal Fournier defeated Parti Québécois's Éric Cardinal.

2007

Liberal Fournier defeated Action Démocratique du Québec's Chantal Marin. Appointed minister of revenue and parliamentary reform, as well as government house leader.
