Riding history: New riding in 1973 election, created from Brome, Missisquoi and Shefford ridings.

In 2001 redistribution gained nine per cent of Iberville, adding in the northwest corner the town of Farnham (5,680 electors).

1973

Liberal Glendon Brown, incumbent from Brome, defeated Parti Créditiste's Georges Binette by 9,687 votes.

1976

Union Nationale's Armand Russell defeated Liberal Brown by 5,930 votes. Russell was elected in Shefford 1956-1970 inclusive, but defeated in 1973. Between 1966-70, he was minister of Public Works and vice-president of Treasury Board. He resigned on Jan. 11, 1980 to run federally.

1980 byelection–2007 inclusive

In a by-election on Nov.17, 1980, Liberal Pierre Paradis defeated Parti Québécois's Gerard Comptois. Paradis was re-elected in 1981, 1985 and 1989, 1994, 1998, 2003 and 2007. Appointed minister of Manpower and Income Security and minister of Labour, Dec. 1985; minister of Municipal Affairs, June 23, 1988. Appointed minister of Environment, Oct. 11, 1989; government house leader, Nov. 12, 1992; minister of Environment and Wildlife and government house leader, Jan. - Sept. 1994. Served as opposition house leader, 1994–2004. Appointed chairman of the committee on agriculture, fisheries and food in 2007.
