Could Charest go back to Ottawa?

Jean Charest says despite a flood of responses from cbc.ca readers who think he would help resolve the power struggle in Ottawa by returning to federal politics, the Quebec premier says he will stay where he is.
Many cbc.ca readers are expressing frustration over the events on Parliament Hill this week. Some have written to suggest Charest -- who is in the final days of a campaign to become Quebec's first three-peat premier in decades - could do more good in the House of Commons than Quebec's provincial legislature:
"Jean Charest is the most federalist Quebec premier ever, with a good shot of getting re-elected on Monday."
"Too bad Jean Charest wasn't the leader of the federal Liberal Party. He's smart and easy to understand in both official languages. Plus I think he knows something of the value of working together."
"Charest is concilliatory, reasonable, and a federalist. This is the kind of person I want in charge."
When asked to comment on the outpouring from Canadians who would like to see him return to the federal scene after 10 years in provincial politics, Charest demeured.
"I'm perfectly happy where I am. I have my hands full right now, and I've never been happier in, you know, what I'm doing," Charest said, with a chuckle, speaking to reporters.
"I wasn't expecting a call of this nature. I can tell you I am very happy, and I'm not going anywhere."
Though, one veteran political reporter in the room noted Charest said the very same thing, just days before leaving as leader of the federal Progressive Conservatives, to join the Quebec Liberals in 1998.
