Polls

Canada and the world

Last Updated February 4, 2008

Canadians hold a strong connection to the global community and believe their country can make a positive contribution to the world around them, according to a survey from the Canadian polling company Environics.

The poll was done on behalf of Canada's World, a citizen's initiative focused on the roles Canada and Canadians play in the world. The principal sponsor was The Simons Foundation, with additional support from the Environics Institute, the CBC and the Globe and Mail.

Those surveyed were asked questions on their travel habits, views on global issues and Canada/U.S. relations, how they interact and engage with the world, and other topics.

The poll found Canadians are evenly split on whether they are optimistic or pessimistic about the world's future over the next decade. But when it comes to making the world a better place, Canadians place more confidence in non-governmental organizations than the federal government, individuals or businesses to get the job done.
