Canada's newest Supreme Court Justice, Richard Wagner, was officially welcomed to the court's top bench in a ceremony today.

Chief Justice Beverley McLachlin, Justice Minister Rob Nicholson and Nathalie G. Drouin, Quebec's deputy minister of justice, were among the speakers honouring his appointment.

Wagner, whose appointment was announced earlier this fall, spoke last.

Formerly on Quebec's Court of Appeal and the Superior Court of Quebec, Wagner replaces Marie Deschamps, who retired last summer.
