Thirteen people will be on the ballot as Alberta’s Senate nominee candidates on voting day.

When Albertans choose their next provincial government on April 23, they will also be asked to choose three potential senators.

Alberta is the only province that elects a pool of senators-in-waiting from which Prime Minister Stephen Harper can fill a vacancy.

The hopefuls had until Tuesday at 2 p.m. to file papers with Elections Alberta to be added to the ballot.

Vitor Marciano, Raymond Germain and Rob Gregory are running under the Wildrose Party banner. All three intend to join the federal Conservative caucus if they are appointed to the Senate.

The Progressive Conservatives have nominated Mike Shaikh, Scott Tannas and Doug Black.

Elizabeth Johannson is the candidate for the Evergreen Party of Alberta.

The NDP and Liberal parties chose not to nominate candidates for the race.

Running as independent candidates are: Ian Urquhart, Len Bracko, Paul Frank, William Exelby, David Fletcher and Perry Chahal
