This week, the coversation in Ottawa was mostly about Prime Minister Stephen Harper's trip to China, which included talk of trade agreements, human rights and the loan of a pair of pandas for Canadian zoos. Across Canada, however, the leading issue was the worsening violence in Syria.

The conflict that began as a disagreement between certain student associations and the provincial government over tuition hikes seems to have morphed into something larger.
