As celebrations to mark the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812 ramp up, Heritage Minister James Moore has revealed details of federal funding toward the event.

Speaking before a Commons committee in Ottawa Thursday, Moore answered questions about the Canadian Heritage department's spending for the coming year and confirmed plans to invest $28 million into the 1812 anniversary celebrations.

The festivities will include a travelling museum exhibit and the construction of a permanent memorial in Ottawa.

However, Canadian Heritage committee member and Newfoundland and Labrador Liberal MP Scott Simms is questioning the amount pledged and, consequently, the reduction of funding then available to other arts groups and initiatives across the country.
