Helena Guergis says testimony at a House of Commons committee Wednesday has left her confused as to why the RCMP was called in to investigate her.

"Yesterday, the apparent source of the information relating to my alleged improprieties, [Derrick] Snowdy, swore under oath that he provided no information about illegal or even inappropriate behaviour regarding myself to any representative of the PMO," the statement said.

"He also swore that he never had any evidence of illegal or inappropriate behaviour on my part."

As a result, she said, "I remain entirely at a loss as to what, then, the RCMP is inquiring into."

Snowdy, a Toronto-based private investigator, made the statement during testimony before the House of Commons government operations committee in Ottawa.

The committee is looking into the government's green fund and whether former Conservative MP Rahim Jaffer — Guergis's husband — and his business partner lobbied the government for contracts, without registering as lobbyists.

Among the allegations were accusations that Jaffer had conducted business in Guergis's office and had used for business purposes the parliamentary BlackBerry she gave him.

In her statement, Guergis denied those claims as well.

"I can’t believe the RCMP were asked to look into whether my husband used the BlackBerry I gave him for purposes other than communicating with me and co-ordinating our schedules," the statement said.

"My husband also met me frequently at my office, and remained on good terms with my staff and almost all of the friends he made and worked with during his time in Parliament.

"I have never had any reason to believe that he would use or had used my office for any business activity."
