Tomorrow's Opposition Motion Today: NDP to "insist" PM attend Halifax premiers' meeting

Courtesy of the Notice Paper, the motion teasered by NDP Leader Tom Mulcair during today's speech to caucus, which will be debated on Thursday:

September 18, 2012 -- Mr. Mulcair (Outremont) -- That this House acknowledge that the Canadian economy is facing unprecedented risk and uncertainty; recognize that many regions and industries across Canada have already suffered significant job losses in recent years; urge all levels of government to work together to build a balanced, 21st century Canadian economy; and insist that Canada's Prime Minister meet with his counterparts in Halifax this November at the National Economic Summit being held by the Council of the Federation.

For the record, I'm pretty sure that the House cannot, in fact, "insist" on the PM attending any meeting. In fact, even attempting to do so may be a violation of privilege, as it attempts to dictate the movements of a member, which is very much against the rules.

In any case, it seems unlikely to pass, although if the PM does decide to add Halifax to his travel itinerary, you can bet the Official Opposition will take full credit.
