Inside Politics

Orders of the Day - Hey, remember those F-35 fighter jets we were thinking about buying/not buying?

The serene statis of Centre Block in summer will be shattered later this morning as the fracas over the F-35 fighter jets resumes, courtesy of the New Democratic Party, which will convene a half-day "information session" to hear from various and sundry "experts" in military and procurement who were initially put forward as potential committee witnesses, but ultimately left unheard after the parliamentary process degenerated into in camera standoffs and related shenanigans.

On the invite list for today's hearing: US national security expert and former Government Administration Office staffer Winslow Wheeler; University of Ottawa professor Philippe Lagasse, former Defence associate deputy minister Alan Williams and Esprit de Corps editor and publisher Scott Taylor.

According to the advisory, the discussion will be moderated by NDP MP Malcolm Allen, and "will include" caucus members Matthew Kellway, Jack Harris, Christine Moore and Lysane Blanchette Lamothe.

Far outside the borders of the capital, the PM continues his Northern foray with a visit to Whitehorse-based Minto Mine, where photographs will be dutifully taken by touring media as an announcement is made.

Elsewhere on the ministerial circuit:

Public Safety Minister Vic Toews continues to traverse Atlantic Canada, stopping in Truro today to co-host a roundtable discussion with local MP Scott Armstrong. Also on the East Coast today: Conservative MP Kellie Leitch, who will "launch the call for proposals" under the "Enabling Accessibility Fund" in Woodstock.

Following the trend set yesterday by her caucus colleague Ted Menzies, Labour Minister Lisa Raitt makes an appearance at the annual conference of the Association of Canadian Port Authorities in Hamilton, during which she will "deliver an address" and take questions from reporters.

Moving west, Minister of State Steven Fletcher celebrates the launch of a new Grey Cup-themed stamp by by holding a photo op with members of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Meanwhile, Industry Minister Christian Paradis -- who has, it seems, managed to score a brief reprieve from the provincial election-induced message event lockdown that has temporarily benched the Quebec wing of Team Good News From Government -- surfaces in Edmonton, where he'll talk "global digital economy" at a breakfast hosted by the Alberta Enterprise Institute.

Finally, Minister of State for Seniors Alice Wong takes her consultation tour to Vancouver, where she will meet with "key stakeholders" to discuss ways that they -- seniors, that is -- "can stay informed, engaged and active."
