Orders of the Day - Go west, federal party leaders, go west.

Having successfully squelched Official Ottawa's most cherished mid-summer pastime in spectacularly efficient fashion, the prime minister will be back in Calgary just in time to take part in the opening of this year's Stampede.

According to the advisory, he's set to deliver "short remarks" before the parade gets underway later this morning, and will make an appearance at the President's Reception this evening, where he may well find himself face to face with at least one other federal party leader: Elizabeth May, who will also be in attendance at tonight's festivities.

Meanwhile, Aboriginal Affairs Minister John Duncan will be on hand to "deliver greetings" to Stampede-rs as he presides over the official opening of Indian Village.

Also in Calgary, albeit not for Stampede-related business (at least, officially): Minister of State for Science Gary Goodyear, who will tour the GE Innovation Centre and recognize SFN Biosystems Inc. as a "Canadian Innovation Leader".

Meanwhile, Government House Leader Peter Van Loan continues to crisscross Newfoundland and Labrador, depositing federal cash wherever he roams. On the schedule today: Rocky Harbour, where he will unveil "significant investments" to support tourism in the Morne region before heading to Cow Head with a financial show of support for a local war memorial.

In Saint-Basile, ACOA Minister Bernard Valcourt has "an important funding announcement" alongside New Brunswick Premier David Alward, which will be followed by a similar event at Malabeam Centre in Grand Falls.

Defence Minister Peter MacKay journeys to New Glasgow with glad tidings for znanja Inc.

Finally, Transport Minister Denis Lebel will hold a "brief media availability" in Quebec City, during which he will share his thoughts on the latest employment figures.
