Orders of the Day - Let the legislative loose ends be tied!

With three government bills and a passel of private members' business up for second reading approval tonight, it appears that the Commons may be ready to rise as early as tonight -- provided, that is, that the opposition parties are willing to give up those final two Question Periods, and agree to flee the precinct ahead of the scheduled Friday adjournment.

Given the steadily climbing humidex, the prospect of spending a little less time cooped up in the stultified air of the Chamber could turn out to be a powerful motivator. We'll likely find out later today after the usual Wednesday closed-door confabs wrap up.

Meanwhile, later this afternoon, Citizenship and Immigration Minister Jason Kenney will reveal what the advisory bills as an "important next step to ensure the integrity of the immigration system," which will be tabled shortly after Question Period.

Also on the House agenda today: an opening round of second reading debate on the First Nations Financial Transparency Act, as well as the continuation of similar consideration of the military justice bill.

Elsewhere on the Hill: NDP MPs Olivia Chow, Robert Aubin and Pat Martin launch a new legislative initiative to "end unfair treatment and unreliable freight services for rail customers".

Finally, in Calgary, the Royal Canadian Mint unveils the 2012 Special Edition Silver Dollar celebrating the 100th iteration of the city's eponymous Stampede.
