Orders of the Day - Another round of job cuts, a final round of Royal Assent prep and Afghan detainees...

As public servants brace themselves for the next round of job cuts, expected to be announced later today, the Senate enters the last stretch of the pre-summer legislative blitz, with the refugee reform bill expected to receive third reading approval later today, and two other major bills on the government's spring sitting to-do list -- omnibudget and copyright -- not far behind.

Later this morning, the Military Police Complaints Commission will release the results of the public inquiry into the treatment of Afghan detainees, which is slated to be posted to the MPCC website at 11:30.

Running the press gallery media gauntlet today:

Representatives from Oxfam Canada and Amnesty International talk Canada's "current and potential role" at the upcoming Arms Trade Treaty negotiations and discuss the details of a declaration "signed by more than 120 parliamentarians."

Liberal Senator Jane Cordy will join physicians involved in the newly created advocacy group Canadian Doctors for Refugee Care as they make one final plea for the government to "protect vital health services," and outline a "national plan to monitor and publicly report on the health consequences of federal cuts to the program." 

Meanwhile, Health Minister Leona Aglukkaq unveils a new plan of her own: one that will "increase accountability and reporting of results in Canada's healthcare system."

Also on the Ottawa leg of the ministerial circuit: Associate Defence Minister Julian Fantino, who will drop by Pylon Electronics to "participate in a contract announcement."

Outside the capital:

• Industry Minister Christian Paradis is in Thetford Mines to highlight federal support to help the homeless, and drop by Innoltek with new "financial assistance."
• Elsewhere in Quebec, Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz delivers the keynote address at the 26th annual convention of the Canadian Special Crops Association in Montreal.
• On the east coast, Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Peter Penashue attends the "official opening" of the Quidi Vidi Village Plantation in St. John's, while Revenue Minister Gail Shea makes "an announcement" at OmniActive Health Technologies in Charlottetown.
• In Toronto, Justice Minister Rob Nicholson heads to Dim Sum King to celebrate the presumably imminent granting of royal assent to the citizens' arrest bill, which, according to LegisInfo, got the third reading nod from the Senate more than two weeks ago, and has been languishing on the Order Paper ever since.
• Elsewhere in the provincial capital, Minister of State for Science Gary Goodyear highlights an investment in community development at the UofT Mining Building. 
• Moving west, Canadian Heritage Minister James Moore heads to the Alberta Art Gallery with new support for "cultural projects" in Edmonton.
• Public Works Minister Rona Ambrose continues her tour of British Columbia with stops at Virtual Marine Technology Inc. in Victoria, and the Esquimault Graving Dock.
• Veterans Affairs Minister Steve Blaney is in Surrey, where he will take part in a ceremony of remembrance at the Runnymede Air Forces Memorial.

Finally, also hitting the meet-and-greet circuit today: NDP Leader Tom Mulcair, who will "discuss the importance of owner-operator and fleet separation policies" with the Eastern Shore Fishermen's Protection Association in Dartmouth.
