Orders of the Day - It's baa-aaack: The omnibus crime bill returns to the Commons

After emerging virtually unscathed from last week's marathon clause-by-clause committee review, the omnicrime bill is set to begin report stage later today -- where, it seems, it will face one last attempted rewrite, courtesy of Green Party Leader Elizabeth May, who has called a pre-sitting press conference to discuss her intentions alongside representatives from the Canadian Association of Elizabeth Fry Societies and the Criminal Lawyers Association.

Justice Minister Rob Nicholson may get the chance to comment on May's proposed amendments when he hits the supplementary estimates circuit later this morning.

Elsewhere on the committee front:

Ethics goes behind closed doors to discuss future business, which may or may not include reporting back to the House on the findings of its study on the now seemingly resolved legal dispute between the CBC and the information commissioner

Over at Canadian Heritage, the 150th anniversary party planning is apparently still in full swing, but the Veterans committee seems to have finally concluded its study into commemoration celebrations, and is now set to begin a review of the delivery of front-line health and wellbeing services.

Meanwhile, both the gun registry bill and the seat redistribution bill  are set to kick off clause-by-clause review at Public Safety and  Procedure and House Affairs, respectively, either -- or both -- of which could spark a similar showdown as that which briefly befell the omnicrime bill last week, depending on how heavy a hand the government chooses to take in limiting debate.

On the House agenda: The aforementioned report stage debate of the omnicrime bill, which will be interrupted, albeit briefly, later this afternoon for a vote on a Ways and Means motion to amend the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada Act.

Also on the Hill today:

The Friends of Canadian Broadcasting release the results of a new national survey and launch a campaign "in defence of the national public broadcaster"

Liberal MP Kristy Duncan teams up with Breakfast Clubs of Canada Founder Daniel Germain and Toronto City Councillor Chris Bolton to call for action on school nutrition

On the interim leaders' circuit: 

• Nycole Turmel heads to Attawapiskat to tour the community with local MP Charlie Angus and Mushkegowyk Council Grand Chief Stan Louttit.
• Bob Rae will be in attendance as the Pulmonary Hypertension Association of Canada launches its LEND A HAND campaign, after which he'll head off to meet with municipal leaders before delivering a keynote address at the annual general meeting of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.

Canadian Heritage Minister James Moore delivers a keynote address at the Annual Conference of the Canadian Chapter of the International Institute of Communications. IIC conference-goers will also get the chance to hear from his cabinet colleague, Industry Minister Christian Paradis, who is slated to provide "an update on measures taken to support the digital economy" later this afternoon.

Environment Minister Peter Kent heads to Quebec, where he - along with the apparently ever-present Steve Blaney -- will make an "important announcement" at the Cavalier Maxim restaurant boat in the Old Port of Montreal.

The Canadian Club of Ottawa hosts a panel discussion with five chief economists from Canada's largest banks, who will, according to the advisory, "talk about the state of Canada's economy as well as the global context."

Finally, the winner of the Shaw Rocket Prize, which honours excellence in independently produced Canadian children, youth or family programming, will be revealed at a gala celebration at the Chateau Laurier.
