A Tale of Two Timmies

It's inevitable that on an election campaign you're going to end up in a Tim Horton's.

This is Canada. And its "Roll Up the Rim" time. But in the past two weeks I"ve been to two with two different leaders.

The first instance was in Dieppe, N.B., with Conservative Leader Stephen Harper, when his supporters essentially took over the coffee shop.

Harper shook a few hands, then went behind the counter, where the staff gave him a job. He had to hand out the coffee once it was poured.

Today, I found myself at another Tim Horton's in the Halifax Ferry Terminal, this time with Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff.

He didn't go behind the counter. He ordered a small coffee and an oat cake, then paid for it.

Those of you who follow these blogs will know Harper didn't have any change in his pockets when his wife wanted a coffee.

So my question now is, would NDP Leader Jack Layton go behind the counter, or stay on the side most of us see and just order something to drink?
