Subject: Federal Court of Appeal decision regarding Elections Canada / La decision de la Cour d'appel federale sur Eections Canada Federal Court of Appeal decision regarding Elections Canada
We will appeal this decision.
As the Prime Minister said today in the House:
(Interestingly, this missive does not conclude by advising recipients to forward any queries to Conservative Party communications director Fred DeLorey.)
- This is an administrative dispute with Elections Canada that has been going on for five years.
- The dispute is whether certain expenses should be counted as local or national.
- We have a difference of opinion on this.
- We maintain that our people acted under the law, as they understood it at that time, and, when it was clear that Elections Canada had changed its interpretation of the law, the Conservative Party already adjusted its practices in the 2008 election campaign.
