Not sure if the other parties will be issuing statements, but here's the official no-comment-well-maybe-just-this-one-comment-okay-back-to-no-comment that the PMO iteration of the InfoAlerteBot put out a few minutes ago:
From: Alerte-Info-Alert [mailto:Alerte-Info-Alert@pmo-cpm.gc.ca]Sent: October-25-10 11:07 AMTo: Alerte-Info-AlertSubject: Omar KhadrOmar KhadrToday, Omar Khadr pleaded guilty to murder and four other war-crimes charges before a U.S. military tribunal in Guantanamo Bay.
- All media questions should be referred to the office of Foreign Affairs Minister Lawrence Cannon.
- Omar Khadr pleaded guilty to murder in violation of the laws of war, attempted murder in violation of the laws of war, conspiracy, providing material support for terrorism and spying.
- The media are reporting that Mr. Khadr has also publicly acknowledged that he was a member of al-Qaeda, that he planted roadside bombs and that he knew he was attacking civilians.
- This matter is between Mr. Khadr and the U.S. Government.
- We have no further comment.
UPDATE: And this from P.J. Crowley of the U.S. State Department:
"I think all I'll say at this point, I believe DoD was, was or will, has or will released a statement that summarizes the charges that Mr. Khadr pleaded guilty to today. I think there's a sentencing phase that will get underway over the next several days. But we will not comment at this point because it's an ongoing legal process." And, when asked whether Canada would take Khadr back, "Again, I'm not going to comment because it's an ongoing legal process."
