Orders of the Day - Oh no! We're running out of clever census-related puns, but not census-related news!
First, my apologies for being a wee bit late with this morning's OotD,
but I'm crossing my fingers that regular readers will be understanding,
since I was wrangling census-related documents late into the night, the
results of which you can peruse here (part one) and here (part two). There's more to come, at least as far as the analysis, so let's whip through today's sked jiggity-jig, shall we?
First up at the National Press Theatre, we have Liberal MP Bob Rae, who will be discussing -- surprise! -- the census changes. Yes, after an explained two-day hiatus, the Official Opposition has apparently returned to their now traditional daily feeding of the Hill-locked press gallery.
After Rae wraps up his rant o' the day, it's over to NDP Leader Jack Layton, who will discuss stimulus funding for Saskatchewan communities affected by the recent flooding -- and, if I know Jack Layton, and I think at this point, we all have a pretty good idea what to expect from the irrepressibly feisty fourth party leader, whatever else the assembled media throws at him as far as post-statement questions.
What else? Well, the PM is apparently heading to Barrie to coach a charity hockey tournament, although not until tomorrow, and we haven't yet gotten word of an event today, so it's probably safe to assume that he's taking a bit of a break from his west coast tour. Hey, it's hard getting back into the swing of the summer barbecue circuit, so cut him some slack. There are, of course, any number of other ministers out there reminding Canadians that really, it's all about the economy, so don't you worry, you're getting your taxpayer dollars' worth from this government.
Oh, and as for Michael Ignatieff, he's headed up -- waaaay up -- to Iqaluit, since otherwise, he wouldn't be able to say that his tour took him "from coast to coast to coast." Not surprisingly, they're not bringing the Liberal Express -- the freight cost alone would likely exhaust the Victory Fund. On the itinerary for the temporarily bus-less leader and his entourage tonight: wing night at the Frobisher Inn.
That's about it for the moment. As always, I'll keep you posted if anything pops up.
