Snowdy and a Ferrari; What would Magnum P.I. think?

From my colleagues, Jason Ho and Laurie Graham:

Imagine. It's late at night in this sleepy capital city.

Two friends are standing outside a boutique hotel having a conversation
after grabbing a quick bite.

Suddenly, out of the darkness, the roar of a powerful engine interrupts the night calm.

A sexy, sleek, hot red ferrari pulls up in front of us and out steps...a casually dressed, 30-something male who wasn't nearly as flashy as the car.

But as he quickly jaunted up the steps of the hotel it clicked....this was not just any out of town visitor.

This was Derrick Snowdy.

The private investigator who reported information to the Conservative government pertaining to Rahim Jaffer.

The gum shoe for hire is in Ottawa to answer questions from the Government Operations Committee about allegations involving Jaffer and his wife, the ousted Cabinet Minister, Helena Guergis.

The ferrari would imply he's a man of means (as would the swank Bahamian hotel he was at when the CBC found him and interviewed him mid-April), but court documents show that he has filed for bankruptcy, is $13-million in debt and has few assets.

But it seems he still has friends in high places.

We're told he borrowed the sports car from a friend because he wanted to put on a show when he arrives on Parliament Hill.

He didn't have a big audience, last night. Just two CBC journalists and a valet.

Today, he will be in front of a throng of reporters and cameras who will likely be far more interested in what he has to say than his car.
