It is not really my job to blog about sports, but once in a while sports and politics come together.
So here we go.
There are of course only two Canadian teams left in the Stanley Cup playoffs. I will not reveal which of the two I'm cheering for here for fear of bias, but let's just say some MPs are making it public and it may be causing them trouble.
Over the weekend Heritage Minister James Moore tweeted the following:
"The Canucks are Canada's team in these playoffs. Plus, they're wearing those handsome Canadian Alliance-esque blue/green jerseys"
Ok, put the Alliance reference aside ... but Canada's team?
What about the Habs? Did I miss something? Did Quebec leave Canada without me noticing?
Didn't take long for another MP to weigh in.
Quebec Liberal MP and staunch Habs supporter Justin Trudeau tweeted back, "You don't have to like the #Habs, but you could show a little more respect".
It would seem in politics and hockey, the gloves may be off.
UPDATE: Moore, scrumming with reporters, outside the Commons, says he's played hockey all his life and it's "obvious" he's going to cheer for the Canucks because he's from Vancouver.
"Lighten up a bit ... it's hockey," he said.
He also praised the Habs, saying they played great against the Pittsburgh Penguins in Game 2.
Trudeau and Moore also engaged in a little fun goading in the foyer, yelling at each other about their teams across the marble floors.
