UPDATE: Liberals circulate 'interesting' government funding list

So there's been lots of talk in the past few days about women's groups that have been de-funded by the Conservative government and debate about why they are losing their funding. Last night on CBC's Power and Politics, Conservative MP Candace Hoeppner said the government was simply being more "focused" in their approach to funding groups.

The Liberals, not surprisingly, don't see it that way and have been working on a list of groups they say are losing their money because they don't share the government's ideology (not all the groups themselves agree with this characterization). But along with handing out that list, they have also added a list of groups and programs that are getting government grants. Let's be clear, this list is not complete in any way. In fact, it could be said to be quite selective. But the Liberals point out it still offers an "interesting" contrast.

A spokesperson for the office of the leader of the opposition says that they'll let the public be the judge of the list, one they compiled (he says) through some simple Google searches.

First, the list with examples of groups that are seeing cuts. (According to the Liberals, some of the  groups have been funded by the Government of Canada for decades: Match International for 34 years, Womanspace Lethbridge for 25 years, New Brunswick Pay Equity Coalition for 10 years.):

1.      Canadian Research Institute for the Advancement of Women (CRIAW)

2.      Conseil d'intervention pour l'accès des femmes au travail  (CIAFT)

3.      New Brunswick Pay Equity Coalition

4.      Réseau des Tables régionales de groupes de femmes du Québec

5.      Alberta Network of Immigrant Women

6.      Centre de documentation sur l'éducation des adultes et la condition feminine

7.      Association féminine d'éducation et d'action sociale (AFEAS)

8.      Ontario Association of Interval and Transition Houses (OAITH)

9.      Womenspace Resource Centre - Lethbridge, AB

10.    Centre for Equality Rights in Accommodation (CERA)

11.    Feminists for Just and Equitable Public Policy (FemJEPP) in Nova Scotia

And here is the Liberals' examples of organizations that are getting money:

Chakam School of the Bible Inc. - $357,146

Wycliffe Bible Translators - $495,600

Spinach Based Cosmetics --  $281, 586

Ontario Golf Magazine  - $26,070

Wine Access Magazine - $34. 390

Twitter Campaign to promote seal hunt - $50,000 - $100,000
