Afternoon Update: Meanwhile, back in the Grand Inquest of the Nation ...

My apologies, y'all, for temporarily getting lost in the labyrinthine world of lobbyist registration, and, as as a result, failing entirely in my appointed task of keeping you fully apprised of the latest goings on in the Chamber.

To make up for it, here's a quick roundup on some of the other bits and bobs of routine and otherwise business that went down in and around the Commons today:

  • First, a quick update on that Speaker's ruling that we've been not so patiently awaiting -- and awaiting, and grumbling over just how long it can possibly take to make up his mind -- the latest unofficial word on that much anticipated ruling from Speaker Milliken is that he's "hoping" to announce his decision by the end of the week, and possibly as early as tomorrow afternoon. According to one source, there are just a few last minute details he wants to clarify before he hits print. File this one under "DEVELOPING" -- and throw in a little Drudge-style siren too, just for emphasis.
  • Next, as the CPAC junkies amongst you are doubtless already aware, the government tabled another raft of detainee-related documents today. As yet, we don't know much more than that, at least as far as the contents, but I'll keep you posted.
  • Finally, it's not strictly Commons business, but simply too delicious, if a teeny weeny bit navel-gazel-y, not to share: Conservative MP Dean del Mastro has given notice that he will be introducing the following motion: "That the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage hold hearings with officials from the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation regarding the relationship with Mr. Frank Graves and EKOS Research Associates, and Mr. Graves' relationship with the Liberal Party of Canada." Now, I should note that it's not clear whether the committee will get the chance to vote on the motion when they get together tomorrow morning, since they've already got a pretty packed agenda, but as always, I'll keep you posted. (And yes, I'll try to liveblog the ensuing debate too, of course.)
