Language commissioner probes the Games
- February 16, 2010 5:57 PM |
- By Ryan Hicks
Official Languages Commissioner Graham Fraser will launch an
investigation into complaints about the lack of French in Friday's
Olympic Opening Ceremonies in Vancouver.During an interview on Power & Politics with Evan Solomon, Fraser said he received formal complaints "and that sets in process a formal process of investigation."
Fraser added: "What I find interesting though is we've seen over this process a debate about whether the question of language in ceremonies is a question of obligations, a sort of grocery list in which institutions tick off the things that they've done, or whether it's a question of value, whether this is the way Canadians perceive themselves."
Watch what Fraser had to say about the controversy over the presence of French at Vancouver's Opening Ceremonies, the complaints, and what's next.
