Afghanistan Committee Watch: Let's try this again, shall we?

Looks like I'm going to be spending some quality liveblogging time on the Hill next week after all:

We the undersigned members of the Special Committee on the Canadian Mission in Afghanistan request that a meeting of our Standing Committee be convened, pursuant to Standing Order 106(4), in order to study the transfer of Afghan detainees to Afghan officials.

A quick check of the parliamentary website reveals that the requested meeting has, in fact, been scheduled for Tuesday afternoon, although after what happened earlier this week, that doesn't necessarily mean that it will actually take place. Then again, the word on the Hill today was that even if the Conservative contingent doesn't show up, the assembled MPs may once again decide to go ahead and hold an "informal meeting" -- one that could include similarly "informal" appearances by the likes of Amnesty International lawyer Paul Champ, and retired diplomat Gar Pardy. It wouldn't be recorded, of course -- but with so little else on the the Hill agenda for next week, it could still end up pulling in a bigger audience than most conventional committee meetings could hope to attract.
