Today's essential political reads:
1) The most-anticipated House of Commons vote of the week happens later today on Conservative Candace Hoeppner's Private Member's Bill to abolish the long-gun registry. And so, the coverage: MacCharles on how the registry appears 'doomed', the Star's editorial about how the politicization of this issue is 'unfortunate', Don Martin's declaration that it's a good time for the registry to die... well, you get the idea.
2) Loads of detail and reaction to yesterday's Auditor General report in every paper today... but Greg Weston draws perhaps the most interesting conclusion: that Fraser's report 'calls the Conservatives' competence into question.' And speaking of emergency preparedness, the 'where's all that vaccine going?' game also continues. The Globe's front page, as well as The National last night, explain how some of Canada's 'leftovers' have been shipped abroad.
3) As first reported by our Kady yesterday afternoon, the Clerk of the Privy Council and the Treasury Board Secretary don't seem to have a problem with those big cheque props.
4) Remember those 76 Sri Lankan Tamils who sailed into Canadian waters last month? Concerns continue that they're connected to the Tamil Tigers, a banned terrorist organization in Canada.
5) More fun with Michael Ignatieff archives... this installment: a 1992 article in support of the republican cause, which declared 'the Royal Family is not doing its job.'
