This riding was created in the 2004 redistribution by combining more than 54,000 people formerly of Edmonton Southwest with about 20,000 from each of Wetaskiwin and Edmonton-Strathcona.
Population: 116,986 (2006 census; an increase of 22.2% since 2001)
Political History
In the 2008 election, Conservative James Rajotte won with a margin of more than 23,000 votes over Liberal Donna Lynn Smith. In 2006, he won with a margin of more than 22,000 votes over Liberal Jim Jacuta. Rajotte also held the seat in the two previous elections when he beat Liberal Bruce King in 2004 and won as an Alliance candidate in 2000.
For the two terms prior to that, the seat was held by Reformer Ian McClelland. Before McClelland's win, Tories Doug Roche (1979-84) and Jim Edwards (1984-93) represented the area.
