Political History
In 2008, Conservative Devinder Shory held the seat for his party by 11,482 votes over Liberal Sanam Kang. The riding had been held by Art Hanger of the Conservatives, and the Reform and Canadian Alliance parties, since 1993. His wins were never narrower than 5,000 votes. In 2004, he defeated Liberal Dale Muti by 13,252 votes. Hanger continued his winning streak in the 2006 election by defeating Liberal Jaswinder S. Johal by 17,928 votes.
Before Hanger, Tories dominated in this area. Alex Kindy won the seat in 1984 and 1988, but was expelled from the PC caucus in 1990 after opposing the GST.
