Riding Info
This southwestern Ontario riding includes the city of Sarnia and part of Lambton County. The towns of Petrolia and Plympton-Wyoming, the villages of Oil Springs and Point Edward and the townships of Enniskillen and St. Clair fall within the riding. The St. Clair River is the western boundary and Lake Huron lies to the north. Sarnia Indian Reserve No. 45 is included.
Sarnia riding was created in 1966 from the riding of Lambton West. The name changed to Sarnia-Lambton in 1970, then to Sarnia in 1976 and back to Sarnia-Lambton in 1981. In 2004, part of the Lambton-Kent-Middlesex riding was added in the northeast.
Population: 105,360 (2006 census; an increase of 0.8% since 2001)
Political History
Conservative Pat Davidson was re-elected in 2008 when she beat New Democrat Andy Bruziewicz by 12,886 votes.
In 2006, Davidson earned the spot of MP after she beat Liberal incumbent Roger Gallaway by 4,192 votes.
Gallaway defeated Conservative Marcel Beaubien in 2004 to win a fourth term.
The former Lambton West riding voted PC from 1945 to 1958 and Liberal in 1962, 1963 and 1965. Liberal Bud Cullen was MP from 1968 to 1970, serving as minister of revenue and minister of employment and immigration. In 1979 and 1980, PC Bill Campbell was elected. Cullen defeated Campbell in 1980. PC Ken James won the riding in 1984 and 1988.
