This west Toronto riding runs from mansions along the Humber River to boarding houses on Queen Street.

It stretches from Lake Ontario in the south to the CP Rail line in the north between the Humber River and the CN tracks and Dufferin Street. High Park and the Junction neighbourhoods are in the riding.

Parkdale-High Park was established in 1976 from portions of the former ridings of Parkdale, High Park-Humber Valley and Davenport. In 1996, a part of York South-Weston was added. In 2004, the southeastern boundary moved from Atlantic Avenue to Dufferin Street.

Population: 102,142 (2006 census; a decrease of 4.1% since 2001)

Political History

In 2008, Liberal Gerard Kennedy defeated New Democrat Peggy Nash by a margin of 3,385 votes. Nash formerly held the riding.

In a rematch of the 2004 election, Liberal incumbent Sarmite Bulte faced off against Nash in 2006. Nash defeated Bulte by 2,301 votes and upset the Liberals' winning streak.

Bulte had held this riding since 1997 and beat Nash in 2004.

Parkdale riding was Conservative from 1917 until 1949, then voted PC again in 1957 and 1958.

Liberal Stanley Haidasz was MP from 1962 to 1974. He was Canada's first minister of state for multiculturalism and was appointed to the Senate in 1978. In the newly formed Parkdale-High Park riding, PC Yuri Shymko won the 1978 byelection, then was defeated by Liberal Jesse Flis in 1979. In 1984, PC Andrew Witer defeated Flis, but Flis regained office in 1988 and the riding elected Liberals in the next four elections.
