This large rural riding in eastern Ontario includes the towns of Bath, Perth, Smiths Falls, Carleton Place and Greater Napanee, as well as Amherst Island.

It stretches from Lake Ontario in the southwest to Black Donald Lake in the north and contains Bon Echo and Frontenac provincial parks. It contains the county of Lennox and Addington and parts of the county of Frontenac and county of Lanark to the border of Mississippi Mills.

The riding of Lanark-Frontenac-Lennox and Addington was created in 2004 from 63 per cent of Hastings-Frontenac-Lennox and Addington and 38 per cent of Lanark-Carleton, moving Carleton Place and Smiths Falls into the riding for the first time. Hastings-Frontenac-Lennox and Addington was created in 1976 from portions of Frontenac-Lennox and Addington and Hastings riding.

Population: 117,389 (2006 census; an increase of 3.8% since 2001)

Political History

In 2008, Conservative incumbent Scott Reid held the seat, winning over Liberal David Remington by 18,453 votes. Reid had also held his position as MP in this riding in the 2006 election, earning 51 per cent of the vote and beating Liberal challenger Geoff Turner.

In 2004, Reid defeated three-term incumbent Liberal Larry McCormick. Reid served as an Alliance MP in Lanark-Carleton from 2000 to 2003.

McCormick served his three terms in Hastings-Frontenac-Lennox and Addington. Conservative Douglas Alkenbrack was MP from 1962 to 1975 in Frontenac-Lennox and Addington and PC Bill VanKoughnet served the following three terms in Hastings-Frontenac-Lennox and Addington.
