This riding runs from Lac des Deux Montagnes in the north to the St. Lawrence River in the south. The western boundary is the Ontario-Quebec border. Vaudreuil-Soulanges riding contains the regional county municipality of Vaudreuil-Soulanges. It also includes Vaudreuil-Dorion, Hudson, Pincourt, Rigaud, Notre-Dame-de-L'Île and L'Île Perrot.

The riding was Vaudreuil from 1867 to 1914 and Vaudreuil-Soulanges from 1914 to 1966 and again from 1997. In 1996, the riding kept 76 per cent of its population.

Population: 120,395 (2006 census; an increase of 17.9% since 2001)

Political History

Bloc Québécois incumbent Meili Faille won a third term in 2008 with 41 per cent of the vote.

In 2006, she defeated former astronaut and Liberal candidate Marc Garneau. In 2004, Faille defeated the Liberal incumbent, Nick Discepola, by 3,062 votes. Discepola had served two terms.

In the former riding of Vaudreuil, Liberal Hal Herbert was MP from 1972-80. Progressive Conservative Pierre Cadieux won in 1984 and 1988. He was minister of labour in 1986, minister of Indian affairs and northern development in 1989, solicitor general in 1990 and minister of state for fitness and amateur sport, minister of state for youth and deputy government leader from 1991 to 1993.
