This urban riding is east of Montreal, across the St. Lawrence River. It consists of that part of the city of Longueuil that was created from the former cities of St-Hubert and St-Bruno-de-Montarville. St-Hubert Airport is also in the riding.

There was no change in the 2004 redistribution. The riding of St-Hubert was created in 1986 from 54 per cent of Chambly, 21 per cent of La Prairie and 15 per cent of Longueuil. In 1996, 64 per cent of the riding was retained and 23 per cent of Chambly and a small area from Longueuil were added. A private member's bill passed in 1996 changed the riding name to St-Bruno-St-Hubert.

Population: 101,416 (2006 census; an increase of 1.7% since 2001)

Political History

Bloc Québécois MP Carole Lavallée won a third term in 2008, easily beating Liberal candidate Pierre Diamond.

In 2006, Lavallée received 50 per cent of the vote, defeating second-place challenger Nicolas Waldteufel.

In 2004, Lavallée won her first term as an MP, defeating Liberal Marc Savard with 55 per cent of the vote. In 2000, the BQ's Pierrette Venne won her second term in St-Bruno-St-Hubert. Venne was first elected in 1988 as a Progressive Conservative in St-Hubert riding, defeating Liberal Raymond Dupont, who had been an MP in the former Chambly riding. Venne resigned from the PC caucus in 1991 and announced in 1993 that she was joining the BQ. Leader Gilles Duceppe expelled Venne from the BQ caucus in 2003 because of her "destructive attitude" toward the BQ caucus and disregard for her parliamentary duties.

The riding of Chambly was Liberal from 1935 to 1980 inclusive, except for a 1958 Tory win. In 1979 and 1980, Dupont was MP. In 1984, PC Richard Grise defeated him.
