Riding Info
This riding occupies the southwest part of the island of Montreal on Lac-des-Deux-Montagnes and Riviére-des-Prairies. It contains the former cities of Dollard des Ormeaux, Pierrefonds and L'Île Bizard.
In the redistribution of 2004, 91 per cent of the riding was retained. This riding was established in 1986 by combining parts of Dollard and Vaudreuil ridings. The 1996 redistribution moved nine per cent into Lac-St-Louis.
Population: 105,504 (2006 census; an increase of 2.9% since 2001)
Political History
In 2008, Liberal Bernard Patry won a sixth term, beating Conservative Pierre-Olivier Brunelle by 9,448 votes. Patry dominated again in 2006, gaining re-election with more than twice as many votes as second-place Conservative Don Rae.
In 2004, Patry defeated Bloc Québécois candidate Marie-Hélène Brunet by more than 22,000 votes to win a fourth term.
In the former riding of Dollard, Liberal Jean-Pierre Goyer was MP from 1965 to 1979. He was appointed solicitor general in 1970 and minister of supply and services in 1972. Liberal Louis Desmarais won in 1979 and 1980, but was defeated in 1984 by Progressive Conservative Gerry Weiner, who became minister of state for immigration and multiculturalism.
Weiner won again in Pierrefonds-Dollard in 1988, running against Patry. He was appointed minister of state for multiculturalism and citizenship in 1988 and minister of multiculturalism and citizenship in 1993.
