This riding west of Quebec City is mainly urban and residential, composed of the former cities of Cap-Rouge, Sillery and Ste-Foy. There are 13 colleges and universities in the area, including Laval University. Jean Lesage International Airport is in the northwest part of the riding.

There were no changes in the 1996 or 2004 redistributions. The riding was established in 1966.

Population: 101,730 (2006 census; an increase of 3.6% since 2001)

Political History

In 2008, Pascal-Pierre Paillé retook this riding for the Bloc Québécois, beating Conservative Luc Harvey by 4,570 votes. Bloc Québécois incumbent Roger Clavet lost a heartbreaker of a race in 2006, finishing behind Conservative candidate Luc Harvey by 103 votes.

Clavet recaptured this riding for the Bloc in 2004, defeating then-minister of Canadian heritage, Héléne Scherrer, by more than 5,000 votes. In 2000, Liberal Scherrer had defeated Bloc candidate Héléne Alarie by 2,455 votes. She had lost to Alarie in 1994.

Liberal Jean-Charles Cantin won in 1968, followed by Liberal Albanie Morin who was MP from 1972 to his death in 1977. Another Liberal, Dennis Dawson, won the 1977 byelection and was re-elected in 1980. Progressive Conservative Suzanne Duplessis won in 1984 and 1988. In 1993, the riding supported BQ Philippe Paré
