Tens of thousands of children starting kindergarten in Ontario, B.C. and P.E.I., this week will be enrolled in a full-day learning program.
Some education experts, including researchers at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, say that full-day kindergarten improves students' academic performance, which will increase their chances of completing a post-secondary education and landing a good job.
The Ontario government plans to make full-day kindergarten programs available for every child by 2015. B.C. schools will offer full-day programs for up to half of the province's eligible students this year, and will complete the rollout by the following September. Meanwhile, every student beginning kindergarten in P.E.I. this week will be enrolled in a full-day program.
Do you think full-day kindergarten is beneficial for young students? Is it worth the expense? Let us know.
