British billionaire and adventurer Richard Branson abandoned his second attempt to
become the oldest and fastest person to kite surf across the English Channel, the Kent
News reported Wednesday
.

Branson, who celebrated his 60th birthday in July, was aiming to reach the French coast
from the British seaside town of Dungeness, a journey of nearly 40 kilometres.

Low winds and unsuitable weather conditions forced the Virgin Group chief to withdraw from his attempt Wednesday.

Branson made his first attempt earlier this week, but strong wind and choppy waters made it unsafe for him to proceed, according to U.K. newspaper reports.

It's not immediately known if he'll try for a third time.

The thrill-seeking businessman holds several records, including the fastest Atlantic Ocean crossing by boat and the first hot air balloon crossing of the Atlantic.
