Marking Grey Cup week

1.) The Best of Milt Dunnell edited by Robert Brehl

Milt Dunnell lived for 102 years, and for most of his adult life he wrote about sports for the Toronto Star. This is a collection of his best work, which is saying a lot because Milt had magic in his typewriter. The book includes eight stories about Canadian football.

2.) When Pride Still Mattered by David Maraniss

Not Canadian, I know. This is a biography of Vince Lombardi, the NFL coach, the man who famously said, "winning isn't everything; it's the only thing." There is a small Canadian link. The book tells us that when Lombardi was being considered for the coaching job with the Green Bay Packers, one of the other contenders was Jim Trimble who was coaching the Hamilton Tiger Cats at the time.
