Trooper, the cat who had one leg and his tail amputated after he was found injured in Stephenville Crossing, N.L. last February, has met Trooper, the legendary Canadian rock band.
The cat, accompanied by Gwen Samms, the manager of the Bay St. George animal shelter, met the band members on Thursday evening, after their performance in Pasadena at the town's Come Home Year celebrations.
'He may be more famous than me, but he's a lot shorter.'—Ra McGuire, singer and co-founder, Trooper
As band and cat posed for photos, Trooper lead singer and co-founder Ra McGuire said he was happy to meet the band's feline namesake.
"He may be more famous than me, but he's a lot shorter," quipped McGuire.
Cat found frozen to driveway
The male cat got his name in February, after rescuers found him frozen to a driveway in Stephenville Crossing after being hit by a car more than a day before. They named him Trooper for the courage he showed during his ordeal.
Trooper was later flown to the Atlantic Veterinary College in Charlottetown, P.E.I. for surgery on his pelvis and amputation of one leg and his tail.
McGuire said the band first found out about their feline namesake when they logged on to their official band website earlier this year.
"And all there was was Trooper the Cat all over," said McGuire. "You scroll down, you scroll down, there's cat pictures, then there's more cat pictures,"
"So it behooved us to react to our new guy, just if only to reinstate ourselves on our own website."
McGuire said the band's webmaster suggested they do something to help the cat, and in March, the band sent Trooper a care package with an autographed CD, and a cat sized t-shirt with the name of their hit song "Raise a Little Hell" on it.
Animal shelter manager excited about meeting

"This is absolutely amazing," said Samms. "I've loved this band my whole life and to see them do something like this for a very special cat, it's touched my heart. I have no words to describe it."
Samms added that Trooper the cat seemed pretty relaxed about his meeting with Canadian rock royalty.
