An Australian woman is lucky to be alive after her bungee-jumping experience in Africa fell flat, due to a snapped elastic cord that sent her plummeting 111 metres into a river below.

Erin Langworthy, 22, broke her collarbone in the Dec. 31 incident, yet managed to swim to safety in crocodile-infested waters — even though her legs were still bound together by a harness.

"I felt like I'd been slapped all over," she said, recounting the impact of slamming into the Zambezi River. The body of water is on the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe.

She commented that after being pulled from the water, rescuers placed her on her back, which meant water in her lungs continued to gag her until she was rolled onto her side.
