Popular U.S. clothing retailer J. Crew plans to open its first Canadian store next year, the company said Thursday.

In its newsletter, The Thread, J. Crew said it would open a store in Toronto in 2011. "Calling all Canucks. We're opening our first-ever J.Crew store in Toronto in 2011. Details are still being ironed out, but we'll be sure to keep you posted," the company wrote to its customers.

News of a Canadian foray first came to light in September 2009, though at the time the company would not confirm reports it was considering a northern expansion. Canadians can currently order items from J. Crew online.

J. Crew's second quarter revenues in 2010 rose 14 per cent to $407.5 million U.S., the company reported in August.
