Gay and lesbian couples in 2005 began legally tying the knot after Canada passed the Civil Marriage Act. A year later Statistics Canada began gathering data on same-sex marriage, counting the number of unions in its 2006 Census. The infographic below is a snapshot of same-sex marriages in Canada.
