WHAT IS MOVEMBER?

Movember is a global charity event that encourages men to grow moustaches for the month of November. The moustache serves as the emblematic 'ribbon' and participants become fundraising ambassadors for men’s health - specifically prostate cancer. Since its humble beginnings in Melbourne Australia, Movember has become a global movement with over 1.1 million participants who have raised $176M worldwide.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Start Movember 1st clean shaven, then grow, groom and love your beautiful mo. Register at Movember.com individually or as a team and use email, mobile phone apps, Facebook and Twitter messages from your MoSpace page to recruit friends and family to join your Movember team or donate to your moustache growing efforts. Raise awareness by organizing events, prompting private and public conversation around the often ignored issue of men’s health. Book your appointment for your annual physical.

WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO?

Funds raised go to Movember’s men's health partner: Prostate Cancer Canada (prostatecancer.ca) PCC is the only national foundation dedicated to the elimination of prostate cancer through research, education, support, and awareness.

In 2010, nearly 119,000 Canadian Mo Bros and Mo Sistas helped raise $22.3 million Cdn.

PROSTATE CANCER FACTS

One in seven men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. One in two men will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. One in three women will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer to afflict Canadian men. The prevalence of prostate cancer in men is comparable to rates of breast cancer in women, yet it receives significantly less funding. Men of African or Caribbean descent are 65 per cent more likely to develop prostate cancer than Caucasian-American men. Prostate cancer is a disease that is 90 per cent curable if caught in time.
