Iran has long been at loggerheads with Israel and Western powers over its potential to develop nuclear weapons. It has insisted its enrichment of uranium and building of nuclear facilities is strictly for power generation and other peaceful purposes. Israel, which is widely believed to have nuclear weapons itself, considers a nuclear-armed Iran a threat to its security and has said it is prepared to launch pre-emptive strikes on the country to prevent it from developing nuclear weapons. The graphic below outlines some of the facilities Israel is likely to target in the event of such an attack and the obstacles its air force would face in reaching Iran, as plotted out by the Center for Strategic and International Studies, a Washington, D.C.-based think tank.
