National homicide rate increases 7%

Rates climb in Alberta, Quebec

Homicide rates in 2011 climbed seven per cent over the previous year, according to Statistics Canada which calculated the national homicide rate at 1.73 per 100,000 population. Manitoba had the highest rate for the fifth consecutive year while Ontario saw its rate sink to its lowest point since 1966.
